Workshop for consultants and business-trainers

Applying of integral approach in organizational consulting:

Workshop for consultants and business-trainers.

May, 23-25 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM, Saint-Petersburg

Guided by Dana Carman and Jesse Mckay

The workshop is meant for organizational consultants, coaches and business-trainers and is dedicated to help them to be effective and to get in current and future tasks and challenges.

This is the first Russian workshop devoted to practice of integral development of companies in USA and Europe and is based on the most modern theory of development and on the real experience and practice of its leaders.

The workshop will be presented by two seasoned consultants and coaches, Dana Carman (25 years of experience) and Jesse Mckay (10 years of experience). Throughout their professional experience Dana and Jesse have consulted to a broad array of clients in the United States, Canada, Central America, Africa and Europe. See the clients list below.

In this workshop participants will experience an impactful and highly interactive developmental learning experience centered around a new approach for developing leading organizations: Integral Organizational Leadership Consulting.

Due to the workshop the participants will get an ability to include the Integral consulting, Integral management and Integral leadership in their working practice.

The flow of the workshop will be designed to support participants in the process of progressively deepening their understanding. The basic progression will be from understanding cognitively, to practicing experientially, to application in one’s real life. More specifically, we’ll be moving from integral consulting acquaintance (before the workshop starts) to hearing case studies and getting a chance to discuss them, to experiential exercises, to question and answer, to practice sessions with hands-on coaching, to action reflection cycles and real time learning, to integration of new embodied knowledge in one’s real life challenges.

What the participants will have gained:

·        Participants will have gained new tools and ways of thinking connected with integral approach and how to integrate them their work.
·        Participants will have had the opportunity to shorten their learning curve by sharing in what has worked and what hasn't in years of professional experience with individuals and companies from all over the world of Dana and Jesse.
·        Participants will have gained an appreciation for when and where to apply integral thinking and practices in their professional work.
·        Participants will be adept at distinguishing between teaching integral and having integral inform their work, and when to do each.
·        Participants will have deepened their understanding and practice of working with the integral approach for organisations.
·        Participants will have worked with developmental thinking so that they are able to use these approaches more effectively in their work.
·        Participants will have been introduced to Polarity Management in a way that they can go back to their work setting and apply it.

Workshop Description

The workshop will begin before Dana and Jesse arrive with the participants consolidating their basic cognitive understanding of the material we’ll be working with by reading three articles: one on each of (1) use of the quadrants in organizational consulting work, (2) polarity management, and (3) strategic developmental thinking.

On the first morning we’ll launch into the learning for the three days together with a couple of case studies from the work of Dana and Jesse. Each case will cover selected details as:

 ·         what they were asked to do (the presenting problem or challenge offered by the client)
·         what they saw (including through the various lens of the integral model)
·         how they responded to what they saw
·         how and why they did they did in that particular situation
·         the key lessons they took from the experience.

The presentations of the case studies will naturally open up to a discussion in which we share our experiences of:

·         what seems to work consistently in applying the integral approach
·         what seems like it will work, but doesn’t
·         what works depending upon the complexity of thinking the group you are working with

From there we’ll move to understanding and applying the quadrants as an approach to systems thinking. Utilizing various simulation experiences we’ll work extensively and experientially with the four quadrants using them as both an assessment instrument and also as a way to understand and work with organization patterns.

The work with the quadrants will naturally progress into our work together in exploring how to manage polarities. The quadrant model offers two of many polarities to manage.

Finally we’ll practice applying this new approach to the problems and challenges they face in their own daily work environments.

Throughout the workshop we’ll be sharing with the participants lessons learned, helpful tips, and important principles on handouts.

The workshop design will include auditory, visual, kinesthetic, and mental aspects and will be designed to be emotionally engaging.

Participants should expect that at points during this workshop we’ll be identifying and sharing personal individual blind spots and personal challenges, including gaining an appreciation of how these affect (and possibly challenge) communication with clients, colleagues and maybe the world in general and provoke the problems appearance.
